In broad terms, this depends on whether it is a church or civil ceremony. Obviously, church events require greater levels of formality because of their religious element. But, increasingly, people are choosing the more informal and relaxed atmosphere of an evening wedding, although many of these are also smart, stylish and quite formal events. In either case, men will require a smart, sharp and well-accessorised suit. Because weddings are big business, there are many suit choices available. For example, for a church wedding, a wool-based suit in a classic colour is usually an appropriate choice. And, for a smart evening wedding or reception, a black dinner suit with black lining and satin lapels represents a great choice.

The other main factors that influence wedding attire are the seasonal aspects or whether a wedding is being held abroad in a warmer climate. While a formal wool based suit is likely to be more appropriate for a late autumn or winter wedding, clearly something cooler is desirable for spring and summer events. A good clothing supplier will have your needs well covered. For summer, you should be able to choose from a range of lighter wool suits in luxurious Italian wool and mohair. Alternatively, cotton and linen make an excellent choice of wedding suit for those warmer conditions. Sometimes, overseas weddings in warmer climates are more low key so a less formal dress code is usually acceptable. Even if buying an elegant suit for a wedding seems expensive, many are so versatile they make great additions to any wardrobe and can continue to be worn long afterwards for a variety of purposes.
